OK, here's seriously hoping that this is not true. But according to reports, the 234 girls abducted at Government Girls College on April 15th may have been married off for N2,000 each and may also have been removed from the Nigeria to neighbouring countries like Chad and Cameroon.

Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in
Boko Haram captivity have been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after
they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each, an
elder told Daily Trust yesterday.

Chibok, who is the leader of the Chibok Elders Forum, told Daily Trust
yesterday that latest information available to them indicates that most
of the girls have been taken to the neighboring Cameroon and Chad by
their captors.
He said before they were ferried in canoes across the
Lake Chad, a wedding ceremony was conducted at a town on the border with
Cameroon where they were married off to Boko Haram militants. Continue...


According to a report by SR, Ambrose Ezewani, an ex student of
the University of Lagos and former President of the National Association
of Delta State students, UNILAG chapter, who blew the lid on a
systematic student bursary racketing allegedly spearheaded by the
Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta state, Mr Hope Eghagha has
been handed over to the Delta state Government

Police officers in Sabo Station yesterday afternoon handed him over after
the Delta State officials visited to ask for his transfer to Asaba,
Delta State where he will be most likely tortured and “tried” for
revealing the fraud perpetrated by officials of the state.
Ezeanwani was President of the National Association of Delta State
Students Union at the University of Lagos. During his tenure, he
revealed that the bursary system was fraught with fraud, which he said

The APC chieftain, Bashorun
Bayo Awosanya, who battered his wife at their residence in Sagamu
on Easter Sunday April 20th (read here) after an argument was arrested yesterday April 28th by the Ogun State police command.

"The suspect personally reported himself to the Sagamu Divisional
Police Officer, CSP Lawal Adebowale, around 0800hrs due to arrest
warrants issued and pressure mounted on him to show up before he would
be publicly declared wanted by the police" the PPRO of the Ogun State
Command in a statement.
He was later transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further questioning. Ogun State police say they plan to charge him to court.

 
Forty-eight prisoners who are awaiting trial at the Ikoyi Prisons have passed the November/December 2013 General Certificate of Examination (GCE).

Deputy Controller of Prisons, Mr. Emmanuel Bamidele, who made the disclosure on Monday while receiving members of the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), said 54 other inmates also wrote the examination but were unsuccessful.

“When they finally regain their freedom, they can seek admission into any university of their choice, since they are awaiting trial,” Bamidele told the NBA members, who were visiting the prison to present gifts to the inmates as part of activities marking the 2014 Law Week.


Foremost producer, writer, director and a leading
player in the Nigerian motion picture industry, Amaka Igwe has passed on.
She died last night April 28th in Enugu after an asthma attack. Mrs
Igwe had gone to Enugu in company of her
husband for pre-production preparations for a new Igbo soap when the sad incident occurred.

She suffered an asthma attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital after initial intervention had failed but sadly died before getting there.

Mrs Igwe is survived by her husband of 21 years Charles Igwe, three children, an aged mother. So sad! May her soul rest in peace...amen. Continue...

A video showing a single mother from Trinidad and Tobago whipping her
12-year-old daughter with a belt for sharing sexually explicit pics of
herself on Facebook has gone viral, sparking a conversation about corporal punishment.



Last Sunday, a video was posted on Facebook showing Helen Bartlett, a
mother of four from Point Fortin, beating her daughter while
hurling profanities at her. The 6 minute clip shows the angry mum raining blows on the girl, who whimpers in pain. Oyibo people feel the beating is shocking and call it child abuse but we are Africans and we have probably seen or experienced worse.



The woman has since said she does not regret beating the girl the way she did and is prepared to go to jail to set her wayward young daughter on the right path. She said since their father left them, the young girl has been unmanageable and she's scared the girl will either end up pregnant or killed. Ann Maguire, 61, is the first teacher to be killed in the classroom of a British school. She was stabbed in the neck in front of pupils at the Corpus Christie Catholic College school in Leeds.

BBC reports that the Spanish teacher was taken to the hospital following the attack but was later pronounced dead. A 15-year-old boy was later arrested for her murder and is in custody.

A pupil at the scene told the BBC that children were seen screaming and running from a classroom following the attack. Continue...


Anthony Wayas (pictured left) a resident of Finima community in
Bonny LGA of Rivers State has been accused by his 12
year old niece of having sex with her since 2013, Tribune reports.
Anthony, who is the brother to the girl's father took responsibility for her after her father passed away when she
was just a year old. By the time she turned 12, he started having sex with her.
His evil act came to light on Monday April 21 after the girl told her neighbour what her uncle was doing to her. The neighbour
then told another neighbor who told the youth leader in the community
and Anthony was accosted in his home where he was badly beaten and had to be rescued by the police. Continue...


18-year-old Ana Rosa Mora (pictured above) has been arrested for killing her own child because the the new born looked like her ex-boyfriend. Ana wrapped her baby in a bag and left him
outside to die because she feared the child looked like her ex-boyfriend
and her current boyfriend would leave her.


The Chicago Tribune reports that the teen gave birth last weekend and attended school on Monday after allegedly committing the act and even showed staff members pictures of a
newborn girl that she claimed she downloaded from the Internet.



But after employees noticed strange behavior - such as the girl asking
if authorities could link her to the child through DNA and lying about

 Minister of Petroleum, Dieziani Alison-Madueke, who has been in the middle of a 10bn jet scandal has secured a court injunction stopping the House of Representatives from further investigating her, Premium Times reports. Alison-Madueke had approached a federal high court in Abuja where she asked the court to restrain the House members to discontinue any probe involving her.

Justice . R. Mohammed who presided over the case, barred the house members or their committees  from summoning her for any further investigations or even ordering her arrest if she failed to appear before the house. According to reports, the court injuction was secured on April 14th but was only made public today as the House intended to commence further investigation on the matter today.


Nigerian women would on Wednesday April 30th
in Abuja stage a one-million-women march tagged "Free our girls" to
press for the release of the schoolgirls that were abducted from Girls
Government college in Chibok, Borno state on Monday April 14th.
The call for the protest was made during an emergency
meeting put together by the Borno state first lady, Hajia Nana Kashim Shettima, yesterday. Coordinator of the protest Prof. Hauwa Abdu Biu said the march is expected to involve every woman in the
country.


 According to a report by Punch, the UK and US government have joined the search for the 234 abducted schoolgirls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, by Boko Haram men.

On Friday April 25th, the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said the UK had begun talks with Nigeria over the incident. (Some mothers of the abducted school girls pictured above)

    "The appalling abduction in northern Nigeria on April 14 is a stark reminder of the threat of sexual violence faced by women in conflict prone areas. I am very concerned that the majority of the girls are still missing. I spoke to Nigerian Foreign Minister, Wali, about this case on 18 April, and we are talking to Nigerian authorities about how best to assist in their efforts to secure the girls’ release and bring those responsible to justice.” Hague said.
