Mother of two shot on a pitch behind a classroom of an SA high school

Shocked pupils came across the bloody body of a 31-year-old woman at Bonteheuwel High School, SA yesterday morning, February 16.

Bonteheuwel mother of two, Lizelle “Zellie” Lucas, was shot execution-style on a pitch behind the classrooms of the school. Her eldest daughter is in Grade 9 at the school.

The motive behind her murder is yet to be established. A police source said:
"She was shot in the back of her head on the school ground. Her boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend, who is also a member of the Junky Funky Kids gang, was last seen with her. We are not sure if it was gang related."

Lucas’s traumatised mother, Linda, 48, said she last saw her daughter around 6pm on Sunday evening. Her mom was actually on her way to the murder scene when neighbours came to give her the devastating news.

"Zellie’s daughter left a little late this (Monday) morning, so when I heard about the body at the school, I was worried it could have been anyone’s child,” said her mom. Just as I left my house, people came to me and said it was Zellie. The last time I saw her was when she said she was going to her cousin to get food."

The next time the mom saw her daughter she was lying dead, face down on a school pitch. Chaos erupted at the scene when Lucas’s angry sister attacked an unidentified woman, who had been seen with Lucas on Sunday night.

Police managed to stop the fight, and kept the woman in custody for her own safety.
The mom said that her daughter was a drinker, but could not confirm if she used drugs.

"When she didn’t come home on Sunday night I was worried," said the mom.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said no arrests have been made yet.
