The Nigerian military has moved the 293 females they rescued two days ago from Sambisa Forest to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital where they are to undergo series of test including HIV and pregnancy test. According to a military source who spoke to Punch, 7 of the girls rescued had gunshot wounds and are being treated at the hospital. The 200 girls rescued are of between ages 13 and 18 years.

According to AFP, the Nigerian Army says it has rescued about 160 more hostages from Sambisa Forest.
"We are still trying to compute the actual number of those rescued. But tentatively there are about 60 women of various ages and around 100 children," Army spokesman Sani Usman told AFP.
He also said one woman was killed in the fighting and eight other rescued hostages were injured. A soldier was also killed and four others wounded.

The army tweeted this evening that they can't confirm if Chibok girls were among the 200 girls they rescued from Sambisa forest today, that they will know after they screen and profile the rescued girls. But now Reuters, AP and Al-Jazeera are reporting that an Army Spokesperson has confirmed Chibok girls are not among the 293 girls and women rescued today.

Army spokesman Col. Sani Usman told The Associated Press that troops destroyed and cleared four militant camps and rescued 200 abducted girls and 93 women "but they are not the Chibok girls." (Let's wait for official confirmation from Army Spokesperson, Olukolade)

Bumble Bee Foods and two managers were charged by Los Angeles prosecutors yesterday with violating safety regulations in the death of a worker who was cooked in an industrial oven with tons of tuna. 

Jose Melena was performing maintenance in a 35-foot-long oven at the company’s Santa Fe Springs plant before dawn Oct. 11, 2012, when a co-worker, who mistakenly believed Melena was in the bathroom, filled the pressure cooker with 12,000 pounds of canned tuna and it was turned on.

Indonesia has executed 8 of the 9 people convicted for drug offenses. The men all pictured above were taken to a jungle clearing on the island Nusakambangan according to local media reports and were executed at midnight Indonesia time by 12 police privates (that would be about 6pm Nigerian time). Staff of Africa Independent Television, AIT, have been barred from covering all activities of  the President-elect, Gen. Buhari until issues bordering on ethics and standards against them have been addressed. AIT crew members were today escorted out of the Defence House where the president-elect currently resides. He was about to have a meeting with the Cuban and Switzerland ambassadors when the reporters were escorted out. Speaking on the development, the spokesperson of the Buhari campaign organization, Shehu Garba said family and security concerns necessitated it.
"AIT has been asked to step aside based on security and family concerns. In addition, Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to issues of standard and ethics. We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter, but for now the station has been asked to stay aside because, like I said, there are some family and security concerns.

Hundreds of decomposed bodies including those of women and children were discovered by a government committee in Damasak, northern Borno State this past weekend. The committee was set up by Governor Kashim Shettima to assess the level of destruction in towns

According to Daily Trust, the victims were suspected to have been killed by Boko Haram insurgents as they fled the town following an onslaught by Chadian forces to recapture the town.

Anambra state governor Willie Obiano who is an APGA party member paid a congratulatory visit to President elect, General Buhari in Abuja yesterday April 24th. According to Governor Obiano, he came to congratulate Buhari on his victory at the polls as well as ask him not to sideline the Igbos in the constitution of his cabinet. Governor Obiano denied speculations that his visit was a move for him to defect to the APC.

Former President Obasanjo is claiming other African leaders were happy that President lost the 2015 presidential election. According to Punch, Obasanjo said this during his speech at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington DC yesterday...
“I have visited six countries since the election, they are as happy about the results. It is good not only for Nigeria, it is good for Africa and I believe it is good for the world.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has called for the removal of payment of subsidy from petroleum products in Nigeria. Speaking at the 2015 Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum  organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Abuja today April 23rd, the Group Coordinator, Corporate Strategy and Planning, NNPC, Mr. Timothy Okon, said subsidy on petrol creates uneven distribution of revenue, round tripping and unnecessary carry-over of funds from one year to another in a manner difficult for the Federal Government to control. He added that continuous payment of subsidy is not sustainable.
