Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, has been shut down following students' protest yesterday which saw school properties, including four cars destroyed. The protest allegedly began after an official of the school tried to stop a Muslim student from praying in the school, which is a Christian school.

The School's VC Prof. Ayo Olukoju announced today that the school will be shut down temporarily but will re-open on June 2nd. Speaking to Punch about the decision, Prof Olukoju said;

“We have rules and regulations in the school and all the
students agreed to abide by them. These rules are in the student
handout. Before now, we have been applying appropriate sanctions against
students who default in any of these rules. We wanted to enforce one of
such sanctions on Wednesday before this crisis escalated. Please, the crisis has nothing to do with religion. It has nothing
to do with being a Christian or a Muslim. People, especially female
students even went to their worship centres on campus on Wednesday to
pray after the incident. Again, I tell you this action was carried out
by the male students alone.”

Weeks after a ferry capsized in South Korea killing almost 300 people, another ferry has capsized with 200 passengers on board. A Bangladeshi ferry capsized today May 15th following strong winds as it sailed through the Meghna river at Rasulpur in Munshiganj district near the capital, Dhaka.

Nine bodies have so far been recovered including those of women and children, according to police, with more bodies expected to be recovered in the coming days. Some of the passengers managed to swim to the shore of the river. Rescue operation has been going on since the disaster happened.

The Army Commander whose unit revolted yesterday May 14th in Maiduguri (read here) has been removed by the Nigerian Army from the 7th infantry division.

Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chris Olukolade, announced the removal of Major General Ahmadu Mohammed in a statement released today.

The Commander's battalion revolted yesterday, shooting sporadically after seeing the bodies of their colleagues who had been ambushed and killed by Boko Haram in Chibok. They also complained of not getting adequate weaponry to fight Boko Haram and poor conditions. The soldiers shot at their commander during the rampage but didn't kill him.

Barely one week after former United States Secretary of States Hilary Clinton accused the Goodluck Jonathan presidency of corruption, a serving government official under President Barack Obama has declared that the Nigerian military is corrupt. Testifying before the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Alice Friend, the Pentagon’s principal director for African affairs said; “We’re now looking at a military force that’s, quite frankly, becoming afraid to even engage. The Nigerian military has the same challenges with corruption that every other institution in Nigeria does. Much of the funding that goes to the Nigerian military is skimmed off the top, if you will.”

PHOTOS: Topless Femen Protesters Join #BringBackOurGirls Campaign (18+ Only)
More than a month has passed since the abduction of over 200 female students from GGSS Chibok by the Muslim extremist group Boko Haram, Borno.

The abduction is now generating worldwide attention and condemnation.
The British and French governments announced Wednesday that they would send teams of experts to complement the U.S. team in Nigeria helping with the search for the girls. The Chinese government has also re-assured Nigeria of its commitment to assist in the rescue of the Chibok school girls.
Meanwhile an exhibitionist feminist protest group FEMEN joined the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. At their official Facebook page they wrote:
"BringBackOurGirls! The terrorist group Boko Haram abducted 270 girls from a school in Nigeria about 3 weeks ago. 50 Girls were able to escape, but 200 are still in the hands of the Islamist organization.
The kidnapped girls are threatened with death, forced marriage or will live as slaves. That is terror,
death and absolute patriarchal oppression in the name of religion and power.  SEE MORE PIX

For the last several weeks, #bringbackourgirls has been trending on Twitter as an effort to raise awareness about the kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls from their Chibok, Nigeria, school by the Boko Haram terrorist group.
Everyone from activists to celebrities has used #bringbackourgirls, causing the hashtag to be retweeted nearly 2 million times. But earlier this week, one random woman tried to lay claim to creating it.

hashtag creator #bringbackourgirls

In interviews with CNN and ABC, Ramaa Mosley (@marystrawberry), a documentarian based out of Los Angeles, said that after hearing the story of the girls, and noticing there was no social media outcry or mentions of it, she decided to take matters into her own hands and do something about it.

By do something about it, she actually means that she took a hashtag that was being used already and claimed it as her own. Mosley “Christopher Columbus'd” #bringbackourgirls, and unfortunately the media outlets who interviewed her about the hashtag didn't do a very good job of researching how #bringbackourgirls started.

A baby in the US state of Minnesota has survived an 11-storey fall from an apartment balcony, local media report.
Musa Dayib, one, has two arm fractures and is breathing with the help of a ventilator but is expected to live, after slipping through a railing.

His doctor said his youth as well as the softer ground he landed on helped contribute to his survival.
Family and friends in Minneapolis's Somali community say the family is in shock.
"When people found out he survived, no one could believe it," community activist Abdirizak Bihi told the Star-Tribune newspaper.

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s model girlfriend Irina Shayk joined in by posting her own #BringBackOurGirls photo to protest against the abductions of over 200 chibok girls....
The model appears topless in the photo and that wasn’t well received by some of her fans

who branded it ‘Pretty tasteless and disrespectful. No class. This is exactly the justification terrorists are probably using to prevent women from receiving western education,’ a fan wrote on Instagram where the photo was posted..............

Albinos in Tanzania have become targets for body-snatchers seeking
to sell them to witch doctors

Two witch doctors in Tanzania have been arrested after a woman with albinism was hacked to death.
One of her legs and several fingers were removed in the attack on Tuesday.

Albinos have suffered widespread persecution in Tanzania, where witch doctors say magic potions made with albino body parts can bring good luck.

Such killings have declined in recent years, but this latest attack has prompted a human rights group to call for all witch doctors to be banned.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the group, Under The Same Sun said the current regulation of witch doctors was clearly not working.

The BBC's Leonard Mubali in Dar es Salaam says that currently all witch doctors have to apply for a certificate from the ministry of health and welfare to practise.
The attack occurred in the village of Gasuma, in Simiyu province - a remote rural area in the north-west of the country where there have been killings of albinos before,
The woman's left leg, two fingers from her left hand and a nail from one of her thumbs were removed.
According to Under the Same Sun, which campaigns against the discrimination of people living with albinism, the last killing of an albino in Tanzania was in February 2013.

In recent years, the government has been also been trying to address the problem, and an albino MP was appointed several years ago.

Solange has deleted all of Beyoncé's pictures from her instagram page leaving only one picture which she uploaded over a year ago that shows herself, Beyonce and a friend in a happy mood. (pic above). Whether she deliberately left the pic on the page or it was an oversight is unclear.

What is also unclear is when exactly Solange removed all the pics. It was definitely after the attack on Jay Z on Monday night but it's not clear if it was before or after the video was released by TMZ yesterday. Some sites are reporting she took them down before we all knew what happened, while some say they observed she took them down immediately after the video was released. Solange has also not tweeted since the video was leaked.

Happy news! The Lagos State Government has warned residents of the state against taking the laws into their hands, saying the full weight of the law would be brought on people caught engaging in jungle justice, I.e beating, burning or killing any suspect,
whether alone or in a mob

In a statement released last Friday, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade
Ipaye, said;

"The full weight of the law would be brought to bear on anyone
henceforth caught engaging in jungle justice, no matter what the alleged
criminal could have done. The mob may well be wrong and the helpless victim may be anyone’s
child or relative. Even if they did commit the alleged offence, there is
a process for prosecuting and showing the evidence in court so that
proven criminals can be properly punished according to law,”
