The Defence Headquarters has released a statement denying a claim today by a Kaduna-based cleric, Dr. Ahmad Gumi, that there is genocide going on in Borno where security forces/vigilante groups round up young men and kill them in a field for allegedly being Boko Haram members. (Read here).
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has found the latest allegation of genocide against the Nigerian military by a Kaduna based cleric as not only diversionary but unfortunate.
"The DHQ wishes to unequivocally dissociate the Nigerian military from any involvement in the alleged genocide as depicted in the graphic pictures which appeared in the front page of Blueprint newspapers of 22 May 2014 edition entitled, “Alleged Killing field in Borno”. Continue...
While the military will continue to respect freedom of expression of Nigerians, it will not submit to desperate blackmail and propaganda aimed at diverting attention and pitching public opinion against the armed forces. Although the real motive of the report and presentation with the apparent intention to impute military complicity in the event depicted in the pictures is yet to unfold, the DHQ sees this allegation as the manifestation of yet another grand design to tarnish and denigrate the image of Nigerian Armed Forces. The Nigerian military remains a professional force whose operations is guided by high standard of professional ethics and will not be party to such dastardly act. At no time or event in the course of the counter-insurgency operation have the troops embarked on the extra-judicial killing of civilians as exhibited in the gory pictures.

The location and occasion where the events captured in the pictures were taken is unknown and has no bearing whatsoever as insinuated in the report by the Blueprint newspaper. The individual holding stick which the paper mischievously described as “a soldier stand(ing) guard…” is certainly not a Nigerian soldier neither is any of those captured in the pictures.

The media are once again advised not to make themselves available to those who are desperate to tarnish the good name of the Nigerian Armed Forces"

Former Governor of Abia state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, while speaking with airport correspondents yesterday as he returned from a trip to the UK, said if things are not properly checked politically, President Jonathan might be the last president Nigeria will have.
"When I was travelling precisely on the 26 of April, I left this airport and I spoke to the airport correspondents and I said there was a need to collaborate with international organisations. You see, this issue is not about President Goodluck Jonathan. If we don’t take time and work together as Nigerians, Jonathan might be the last Nigerian President. Jonathan might be the Gorbachev of Nigeria. And that is the truth, so we better wake up. Political class, business class, military, civilians must now stand up to work for our internal security. Internal security is more important than anything we have done and I believe that once we are able to come together Nigeria will be alright. As of now the country is in pains; the country is in problem and some people are taking it very lightly.

Actor Charlie Sheen went ballistic on Rihanna today after the singer snubbed him and his girlfriend at a restaurant last night. Charlie Sheen said he took his porn star girlfriend out for her birthday at the same restaurant as Rihanna and that his girlfriend, who is a fan had asked to meet Rihanna. But after RiRi turned down his request for an impromptu meet and greet, Charlie cuts loose on Rihanna via social media; Below is what he wrote
So, I took my gal out to dinner last night with her best friends for her Bday. We heard Rihanna was present as well. I sent a request over to her table to introduce my fiancé Scotty to her, as she is a huge fan. (personally I couldn't pick her out of a line-up at gunpoint)
Well, the word we received back was that there were too many paps outside and it just wasn't possible at this time. At this time? At this time?
Lemme guess, we're to reschedule another random 11 million to 1 encounter with her some other night...? Continue...

52 year old Imo state born Onyejiaju Augustine was arrested yesterday by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for being in possession of 2.605 kilogrammes of cocaine packed as candies. He was arrested at the  Murtala Mohammed International Airport as he was about to smuggle the illegal drug out of the country en-route Etihad, Punch reports.
NDLEA spokesman Michelle Ofoyeju said Onyebuchi had been on the wanted list of the agency
"Augustine, who is a specialist in drug had earlier departed Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the illicit drug disguised as candies. He was, however, caught at the MMIA in Lagos.”
Augustine when arrested said he was a supermarket operator in Brazil
"I own a supermarket in Brazil where I have lived since 2006. I bought the cocaine and concealed it as candies. It was unfortunate that the trick was discovered." he said
NDLEA said the man will be charged to court soon.

I cannot verify the  authenticity of what you are about to read and see but according to a  popular Muslim cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmu Gumi, who shared the photos on his Facebook page, he claims the men lined up are young Almajiris who were executed without trial as Boko Haram members in Borno state. He claims vigilante groups would move into the villages, pick up young men, take them to the field and kill them. He said this is how some innocent people are killed in the name of fighting Boko Haram. He shared four photos...find them after the cut...but viewer discretion advised. It's quite graphic...

15 year old Deborah Peter, a Chibok indigene who now resides in Virginia, USA, was at the Capitol Hill, D.C yesterday May 21st, where she narrated her experience in the hands of Boko Haram. Deborah was at the US congress in her capacity as a Boko haram survivor, to lend her voice to the #bringbackourgirls
campaign, as members of the congress debated on how to effectively win the war against the radical Islamic sect that abducted over 200 girls in Chibok on April 14th.

Deborah told the story of how her father, a Christian pastor who had been asked to  deny his faith and her brother were both killed in a singular attack on the evening of Dec 22 2011 by three members of Boko haram. She said the men shot her dad 3 times on the chest and as they deliberated on whether to kill her brother, her dad breathed his last when he heard gun shots fired at his son, Caleb.

Deborah said she was then asked her to lie in between their corpses. She laid there until the next morning when she was rescued by a local Pastor who paid for her to be transported out of the region. Sadly, the pastor who assisted her was also killed in 2013 by the sect men. Continue...

I absolutely don't believe this story because what sister would do that to her own blood? But let's carry it for entertainment purposes....:-). According to this week's In Touch magazine, Solange is writing a Tell-All book, and getting $20m for it. Below is what they wrote:

From cheating to abuse to fake baby bumps, Solange could reveal what's behind rumors that have plagued the famous family. . .

Solange is growing increasingly fed up with playing second fiddle to Beyonce, 32, and sources believe she's ready to spill the beans on everything from their estranged father to how Beyonce turns a blind eye to Jay Z's womanizing. "Solange was always in the background while Beyonce was the golden child," says a family friend. "She's sick of being held down and she's ready to fight back." Continue...

A few weeks ago, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's book Half of a Yellow Sun was to hit our cinema screens...but it was stopped. I heard the reason it was removed was because of the theme of the movie, the Hausa killing Ibo/biafra war story and because of the current situation in Nigeria, some scenes were asked to be cut from the movie by the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board. I don't know if the scenes have been cut or what exactly is going on right now, but NFVCB has still refused to let the movie show in the cinemas.

Actor and former Actors' Guild of Nigeria president Segun Arinze is now calling for the resignation of the Director-General of the Censors Board. His statement below...

According to a report by Channels TV, the Nigerian army has announced the recruitment of volunteer soldiers that will serve in the search for the missing Chibok girls as well as help in the fight against Boko Haram insurgence. In a press briefing today, the Director of Public Affairs said the recruitment exercise will end on June 21st and is open to only able bodied persons.

The multi-billion naira drones purchased by the Nigerian Government in 2006 for the surveillance of petroleum pipelines in the Niger Delta that might have been used by the military in the search for the missing Chibok girls are said to be obsolete due to lack of maintenance & use since they were bought
Vanguard reports that Tsur Dvir, a Marketing Officer for Aeronautics Defense Systems, a firm based south of Tel Aviv, that supplied Nigeria with Aerostar unmanned aerial vehicles, said yesterday
that to the best of their knowledge, the drones are not operational.
"To the best of our knowledge, these systems are not operational. They (drones) are  probably parked in a yard somewhere".
