A military airstrike targeted at Boko Haram members in Abadam Faransa village in Niger republic on Tuesday February 17th accidentally killed 37 villagers who were gathered for the funeral of a local chief. 20 others were injured from the airstrike.

Although no nation has claimed responsibility for the airstrikes, some Niger Republic military officers believe the airstrike was launched from a Nigerian jet, a charge the Nigerian Defence Headquarters spokesperson, Gen Chris Olukolade has denied
"It’s not to my knowledge and there has not been any report from our people of such an incident,” Gen Olukolade told BBC in an interview

The nude corpse of a lady was discovered a day after Valentine's day on Sunday Feb. 15th at Okwu village in Umunneato autonomous community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

The corpse had bruises all over, especially around the breasts and private parts, leading people to believe she was brutally raped and murdered. The identity of the victim or her age is still unknown. The people who discovered her body called the police who came to remove the corpse.

The Senate has summoned INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega to appear before it tomorrow, Feb. 18th, to explain the reasons for the postponement of the general elections. They also want him to bring card readers to demonstrate how they would use them during the forthcoming elections.

A frustrated male traveler shocked airport staff at Russia's Pulkovo Airport in St Petersburg, by stripping completely naked after he was sent back to remove his belt and shoes, while passing through metal detector. And the whole thing was caught on camera.

The frustrated man first removed his trousers, shirt and before anyone knew what was going on, he removed his undergarment, exposing himself to other travelers. Then while naked, he removed his watch. The bewildered security guards, who didn't seem to know how to react, didn't do anything to stop the man. At least 3 people have been confirmed dead after a male suicide bomber blew himself up at Alamin Restaurant along Damaturu road in Potiskum, Yobe state this afternoon killing himself and two others. 21 people were severely injured. According to the state Police Public Relations officer ASP Toyin Gbadegesin, the suicide bomber attacked the restaurant at about 2pm today. Bodies of the dead have been taken to the morgue at the Potiskum General Hospital while the injured ones are receiving treatment.

The DG of the APC Presidential campaign organization and Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused the first lady, Patience Jonathan and the state PDP Governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike of organizing the disruption witnessed at the APC Governorship rally in Okrika, the village of the first lady earlier today. The 11 Bayelsa women who perished in a vehicle accident on Saturday Feb. 14th after a visit to First Lady, Patience Jonathan in Ahoada, Rivers state will be given mass burial. According to Sahara Reporters, the decision to give them a mass burial was reached after pathologists told family members that standard test carried out on the charred remains of the women would take up to 6weeks to ascertain their true identities, a time the family members said was too long to wait. 

Mr Mathew Utolor, husband of one of the victims and a member of staff of the State Broadcasting Corporation, said he could not believe it when he couldn't identify his wife from the charred remains of the accident victims. “I could not believe that I could not identify my wife," he said.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala yesterday revealed that the federal government has blocked a N208.7 billion ghost workers scam in government parastatals and agencies after a biometric collection exercise carried out to get a proper data of federal civil servants revealed that 62,893 of the workers who were hitherto on the payroll of the federal government were ghost workers.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the Minister said when the biometric exercise was introduced, most of the civil servants did not show up, an indication that they were ghost workers and after their disengagement, the federal government has been able to save about N208.7 billion usually expended as salaries and benefits on these ghost workers


Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau has released a new video where he vowed to disrupt the forthcoming general elections. The video which was released on twitter yesterday February 17th, showed Shekau saying in hausa language that even if he and his members are dead, Allah would not allow the elections to hold
"This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it," Shekau said in Hausa language
In the video, Shekau said that last weekends attack on Dandikowa village in Gombe state was never repelled by the Nigerian military and that his men overran the troops and freed some of his members who were imprisoned.

Others include Col. Augustine Akobundu retd. (Abia); Mr. Fidelis Nwankwo (Ebonyi); Mr. Kenneth Kobani (Rivers) and Senator Joel Ikenya (Taraba). No date has been fixed for the Senate screening of the nominees.


Another town in Borno state has reportedly been captured by Boko Haram militants. Askira Uba was captured over night after the terrorists stormed the small town yesterday. They killed some people, burnt down houses, including the Emir's palace. The place is now reportedly completely deserted as many residents fled the town.

Traffic police in the town of Surgut, western Siberia, fined a female driver 500 rubles ($8) because her dog was not wearing a seatbelt, the driver told TASS on Monday.
