The Senate has withdrawn the frivolous petition bill otherwise known as the Antisocial media bill sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah. At the plenary today May 17th, the senate received the Report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters that examined the legality of the bill.

Joan Jeremi who is 9 year old today, is a very talented violin player from Delta state. Not only does she play the violin well but she also composes her own symphonies.

The talented young girl started this journey in Delta state when she was 7 year old and in less than 2 years, she has already started getting all the recognition she deserves.

According to the victim, Elomachukwu Agbara, her father, Ifeanyi Agbara, poured kerosene on her and lit her up for not coming home on time from her tailor's place. 
Asked why he set her on fire, Ifeanyi said "She had been out of the house and we asked her to come inside the house, she refused. So we poured Kerosene on her and that was it. It was when she wanted to run away. Nobody used matches on her, it was a lighter" - he said

The Yobe state police command has arrested 28 year old, Adamu Mai Bisco, for hacking his mother, father and sisters to death with a shovel while they slept at their home in Potiskum town of Yobe state yesterday Monday May 16th.

According to the state's Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin, the suspect is believed to have carried out the dastardly act under the influence of hard drugs, according to The Nation.

Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo and his wife, Ifeoma recently welcomed a baby boy - their first Child after nine years of marriage. Sharing photos of their newborn, Kenneth wrote, "Unto us a son is given and his name shall be Kenechukwu Isaac Chukwuchirimeze Okonkwo". More pics after the cut


A farmer found an abandoned newborn baby at his doorstep in Kampung Siantan Baru, Malaysia, today May 17.

The 51-year-old had just completed his prayers when he suddenly heard loud cries of a baby coming from outside his house around 5.30am. The man was astonished to find a baby girl abandoned on a chair in front of his house. The man immediately wrapped the baby girl in a piece of cloth and alerted the police. 

The prime suspect in the murder of Dr Ivye Umanah, Henry Silas is pictured right at the Force HQ in Uyo. Left is the weapon used by the suspect to deliver the fatal blow that killed Dr Umanah at her home. The rod sticking out of the evidence bag is a car axle, quite heavy. A three-year-old kindergarten girl died last Wednesday May 11 in asphyxiating heat in a school van for more than seven hours after the driver and his assistant forgot her when they stopped at a housing estate in Samut Prakan, Bangkok.

The deceased identified as Palimprapa "Nong Ing" Pajjaiyo was found lying face down on the floor between the farthest back seat and the rear tailgate door of a Toyota van parked in front of Denchai Samakkhi housing estate at about 3pm.

Kenyan police brutalized some civilians who engaged in a protest in Nairobi yesterday May 16th. The Kenyans were protesting for election reforms ahead of the country's presidential election holding next year. The police officers were photographed beating the protesters with batons and also tear gassing them. The unfortunate incident took place outside the headquarters of Kenyan's electoral commission. 24-year old nursing mother, Yewande Busari was killed when an electric wire fell on her as she was crossing the ever busy Oshodi express way on May 6th. Yewande was carrying her baby Pamilerin on her back, fortunately he survived the electrocution.

The meeting between the Federal government and organized labor over the planned strike against the recently increased pump price of petrol, ended in a deadlock yesterday night and will continue today May 17th.

At the meeting, Labor leaders insisted that the only way the planned strike action will be shelved is for the Federal government to review the minimum wage upwards, improve the palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel price hike on Nigerians and reconstitution of the board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).‎

Kechi Okwuchi 9 
Kechi Okwuchi is the survivor of the plane crash of the Sosoliso Airlines who graduated from the University of Thomas, Texas, the U.S. at top of her class. The Sosoliso Airlines flight with 110 people on board crash-landed at Port Harcourt International Airport on December 10, 2005.
Seven people were rescued from the burning plane and taken to hospitals but, in the end, only two survived. (Scroll down for graduation photos) As Kechi Okwuchi was seriously injured during the crush, she spent several years recovering from severe burn injuries all over the body.
She was treated in Milpark Hospital at Johannesburg, South Africa as of 14 December 2005 and at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas, United States as of 6 September 2007. Kechi has had more than 100 surgeries, including skin grafts. Doctors placed pins to support her hands.
Nevertheless, Kechi Okwuchi graduated with a degree in economics and marketing from the University of St Thomas in Houston, Texas on May 16, 2015. She also was inducted into six academic honor societies and was the most outstanding student for her major in Economics.
