An unidentified young man committed suicide in an uncompleted building at the Ijaiye area of Lagos state. Zuma rock, one of the popular landmarks in Nigeria is on fire and has been since yesterday evening. It is not clear what caused the fire which can be seen on a portion at the top of the rock.
From the road leading up to the towering rock, smoke can be seen billowing as the fire shows no sign of abating. Isiyaku Madalla and other Facebook users resident in Abuja shared photos of the burning rock. More photos below.

A year-old baby girl was snatched from her mother and gang raped in Katsina State. The suspects had reportedly tricked the 30-year-old mother of the infant, encouraging her to get on a motorcycle, but as soon as they saw an opportunity, they snatched the baby from her and took her to a bush where they raped her.

Police officer from Atakpa division rescued an alleged robber from being set ablaze at Hawkins cemetery Calabar South, Cross River State.

The alleged robber, (pictured sitting on the floor) said to be a load carrier was caught red-handed in the act in the early hours of Thursday, May 18th, along Hawkins while carting away with some goods.

Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of the sum of N449,597,000 found in an abandoned Bureau de Change shop in Victoria Island, Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC on April 8th.

Justice Aikawa gave the order for permanent forfeiture after no one came forward to claim ownership of the money.

James Ratemo, a Kenyan politician who is vying for the Kapsoya ward representative seat in Eldoret has been struck with tragedy as three of sons who went missing, were found dead.
According to The Star Kenya, the three boys identified as Clifford Nyambane, Dan Nyamweya, and Glen Ongagi were reported missing on May 13 after they went to a Church in the company of their cousin and never returned.

Earlier today, some students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH, posted an obituary of their current Vice Chancellor, Professor Sulaiman Gbadegeshin, as a way of showing their displeasure over the lingering strike action in the school. Academic activities in the school have been on standstill for many months now due to a faceoff between the staff of the school and the Osun and Ondo state governments that are co-owners of the school. The lecturers are demanding the payment of the arrears of their salary that amounts to N7.1 billion.

The EFCC on May 16, 2017 arraigned the duo of Buhari Fannami and Ba-Kura Abdullahi on two separate one count charge before Justice M. T Salihu of the Federal High Court Maiduguri, for allegedly giving false information to the agency under the whistle blowing policy.

Fannami had misled the EFCC with the information about illegally acquired monies purportedly buried at the residence of one Ba’a Lawan but the info turned out to be false after the execution of a search warrant,

Brandon filed a petition at a small claims court seeking $17.31 in damages. He told the Austin American-Statesman that he spent that much money to take his unidentified date to a 3-D showing of "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2" on May 6, 2017.
