At least 16 people drowned today after being trapped in a bus which plunged off a pier in southern Russia.
Some 24 have been rescued or swam ashore on the Black Sea, but there were fears that the vehicle was overloaded with oil construction workers and that the toll may rise.
There were unconfirmed claims that between 38 and 60 people were in the bus when it sank at a depth of around 35 ft.

After spending nearly three decades on Death Row, Jacksonville killer Mark James Asay was executed Thursday evening, the state's first inmate to be put to death in more than 19 months and the first execution under a lethal injection procedure never used before in Florida or any other state.

Asay's execution at Florida State Prison was the first since a January 2016 U.S. Supreme Court decision, in a case known as Hurst v. Florida, that effectively put the state's death penalty in limbo. He also was the first white man executed for killing a black victim in Florida.

Jay Thomas, a comic and character actor whose credits include roles on "Cheers" and "Murphy Brown," has died after a battle with cancer at the age of 69.

His publicist, Tom Estey said, 'Jay Thomas was one of the funniest and kindest men I have had the honor to call both client and friend for 25 years plus. He will be dearly missed by so many'.

A 1-month-old baby in Oklahoma is in critical condition after police say the newborn's father brutally beat him for crying.

Robert Jackson Jones Jr. was arrested and charged with child abuse after he allegedly told Muskogee police that he choked, slammed and tried to smother his son.

According to the Tulsa World, the baby's mother Emma Whitehead told authorities that she and Jones took their child to the emergency room on Sunday when the baby started having seizures.

After realising she had won, Mavis Wanczyk, who beat odds of one-in-292.2 million, immediately called her work to say she would not be returning.


The 53-year-old, hospital cleric from Chicopee, Massachusetts, found out about her win while on what turned out to be her last night shift at a hospital where she had been for more than 30 years.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed a flood of immigrants with open arms but warned them to please enter the country legally. He sounded the alarm on the growing flood of immigrants entering Canada.
"Canada is an opening and welcoming society, but let me be clear. We are also a country of laws," Trudeau said in remarks after a meeting in Montreal with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
He continued: "Entering Canada irregularly is not an advantage". "There are rigorous immigration and customs rules that will be followed. Make no mistake."
