Today marks the 2nd year memorial of film maker, Amaka Igwe who died on April 28th 2014. Her daughter, Ruby, penned down an emotional tribute on her facebook. She wrote;

Neighbours of an Orlando, Florida deputy saw flames and realized that her house was on fire at about 11pm on Monday, they quickly called 911 and rushed to help her, her husband, their two children. One of the neighbors, Mr. Dover, was able to break through all the front windows of the home and rescue the Seminole County sheriff's deputy.

Some soldiers who fought in the AU Peace-keeping operation in Guinea Bissau in 2015 have protested the non-payment of their allowance in the last six months.

According to ThisDay, the soldiers numbering about 200, met with press men in Yola, Adamawa state and registered their displeasure at the recent development.

President Buhari has reacted to the recent attacks carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen in some parts of the country. Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, Buhari ‎condemned the terror attacks. Popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe Gentry, had a brush with men of the Osun State police command around 4.30pm today. She & her driver were arrested at Olaiya junction in Osogbo, the Osun State capital for allegedly displaying a police cap on her car’s dash board, attracting the police attention. Another report claims it was because her driver was using the phone while driving.

The Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical company says it will begin 2 million liters of petroleum products today April 27th. According to the management of the company, the refinery will get its supply of crude from Escravos, Delta state and then begin refining immediately. This is part of efforts to increase the supply of fuel nationwide.

The trial of eight Nigerians and a Cambodian woman arrested on allegations of drug trafficking resumed at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday April 25, with police saying that the group worked together as team despite several of the defendants’ denials.

The Department of State Security DSS has arrested the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Youth and Student Matters and President of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Barrister Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, according to a report by Vanguard.

The brother of Ugochinyere, Obinna Ikeagwuonu, released a statement, informing the public of his arrest. The statement in part reads;

 
An innocent baby boy has become an amputee after he was shot at by unknown persons in the middle of the road.

The baby, Lamonthea Theus only 3-month-old but has already lost his hand after he was shot while sitting in his car seat early last Saturday morning in Kansas.

Nigerian academic, Prof. Abiodun Alao, will today deliver an inaugural lecture at King’s College, University of London. This would make him the first ever black African scholar to deliver such lecture since the institution was established back in 1829.
A professor of African Studies, Abiodun Alao was conferred with a professorial title about two years ago alongside his Nigerian counterpart in the institution’s African Leadership Centre - Prof. Funmi Olonisakin.
