A troubled Manhattan woman has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for scalding hot oil onto her sleeping boyfriend and repeatedly stabbing him before locking him in their bedroom.
According to prosecutors, 39-year-old Myeshia Hawkins-Taylor argued and accused his boyfriend of cheating on her on Jan. 29, 2016. Around 2 a.m. the next day, she poured hot oil onto her boyfriend’s face and body, severely burning him.

When Carlton Adams, 53, woke up and tried to escape, Hawkins-Taylor stabbed his arm, leg, abdomen and locked him up in their bedroom officials said.
Scared he was going to die, she eventually called 911 for him 36 hours later
The victim was in a medically induced coma and hospitalized for nearly two months.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. announced the sentencing of Myeshia Hawkins-Taylor on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to attempted murder last month.
According to the District Attorney, he referred to the attempted murder as a form of domestic violence.
“It’s a common misconception that only women fall victim to domestic violence – in reality, a recent survey estimates one in seven men will experience severe physical intimate partner violence in their lifetime,” he said.
